International Exhibition and Congress for Casting Technology, Melting, Forging, Aluminium and Services - opened at the Expoville Exhibition Centre in Joinville, Santa Catirina , Brazil . Held biannually and running from the 9 – 12th September, Metallurgia is the largest foundry exhibition in South America this year.
400 companies were represented and more then 20,000 people visited from Brazil , Argentina , Peru , Venezuela , Chile , Mexico , China , Germany and Italy .. This represents a growth of 20% on the previous event.
Synchro32 exhibited at Metallurgia for the first time at it was an undoubted success with a contract being signed at the stand, a first for Synchro and many more valuable contacts made with foundries in the region |
The three southern states of Brazil Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná together account for 24% of Brazils casting output and are an important sector in the industry. The other two main sectors are São Paulo 36% and Minas Gerais 25%.
The Brazilian foundry industry is currently going through a boom period, a 10% growth of tonnage output is predicted from last year and investment through to 2012 is planned to approach $1 billion adding an estimated 1M tonnes of production. This is mainly fuelled by the automotive industry which has seen Brazil grow to become the worlds 7th largest automotive producer, overtaking France and directly or indirectly employees 1.3M people.
